Kanrantei means to watch ripples on the water. In the past, this building was used to house the feudal lord and his daughter, and to receive guests. Alcove and partition paintings are drawn in gorgeous, rich colors and have been designated national important cultural properties. Initially called Tsukimi Goten, an "Otsukimi no Kai" (moon-viewing gathering) is held in September when the moon is particularly beautiful.
